This event is open to any interested Maryland senior citizen.

During the 2008 legislative session Anne Arundel County Delegates Busch, Costa, and Kipke co-sponsored the legislation that created this benefit, with other members of the Health and Government Operations Committee. This new plan will provide $300.00 towards the premium for Medicare Prescription Part D Plans and will also cover the out of pockets costs for prescription drugs, up to $1,200.00 per year.

To be eligible for this program an individual must be enrolled in a Medicare Prescription Part D plan, have after tax income not greater than $42,000 for a couple or $31,200 for an individual, and also must have been a Maryland resident for at least six months. Additionally, assets like your home, car, or other personal property cannot be counted against you. For more information, please see the attached application or visit the program website.

Applicants need to enroll now to be eligible for benefits that begin January 1, 2009. The deadline for enrollment is December 31, 2008.

Delegate Kipke states that "unlike many government programs, I am happy to report that this new assistance program is not supported with taxpayer dollars." The financing for this program comes from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, who agreed to fund this new benefit with four million dollars each year. CareFirst BC BS is a non-profit health insurance company and therefore spends a large portion of what would otherwise be their profits on community initiatives like the Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program.

Town Hall Meetings - September and October, 2008

One of the commitments I made while campaigning was to never be one of those elected officials that you only see around election time. To keep that promise, I regularily host town hall meetings, attend dozens of community meetings each month, and stay accessible to you through email, my website, phone, or in person.

Recently, all of the elected officials who represent District 31 agreed to host a series of town hall meetings. These meetings will be held on three seperate dates, in three seperate locations. All three are open to the public and will be an opportunity to hear information related to state and local government. In addition, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and share your ideas.
